50th Anniversary Edition (Mike B, Crate Digga Hash x Zamir Films)
Michael’s musical foundation was influenced by his late father Michael Burton Sr.,
and also by the rich musical heritage on his mother's side of the
family; with roots tracing back to his late grandfather, Charles Street.
Charles was a renowned lead gospel quartet singer with the Messiahs of Glory, a
well-known group based on the west side of Chicago.
Michael began exploring
creative writing, poetry, and hip-hop, after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s
disease at the age of 18. By the early 2000’s he got inspired to write a poem
to accompany his artwork titled Let Me Paint a Picture while listening to
fellow Chicagoan and poet J.Ivy; who was featured on Abstract Mindstate’s album
We Paid Let Us In.
This led to writing his
first book, titled Let Me Paint a Picture; My Life, Growth, and Testimony, while
participating in Chicago’s open mic scene for a few years. Though he never
stopped writing, sharing his poetry resurged during life-changing events
leading into the Covid season; where he began experimenting with spoken word
and multimedia, and soon after, getting his first major feature on Dell-P's groundbreaking album
"The People's Emcee,"
